Assembly & Installation Policy

How assembly works for the products we sell, and how to set up safely.

Overview

Assembly is your responsibility

Most products we sell arrive in boxes or on a pallet and need assembly. Assembly is the customer's responsibility. Every product comes with the manufacturer's manual, and you should follow it step by step.

We do not offer on-site assembly or installation. If you want help, a local handyman or a professional assembly service can do the work for you.

Safety

Before you start

  • Read the whole manual, and the safety warnings, before you open the hardware.
  • Check the parts against the parts list. If something is missing or damaged, contact us before you start.
  • Gather the tools the manual lists. Many products need a drill, sockets, a level and a ladder.
  • Wear gloves and eye protection, and keep children and pets away from the work area.
  • Plan for helpers. Large items, such as playsets, pergolas, gazebos and tractors, can be heavy and awkward. Do not try to lift them alone.
Outdoor structures

Playsets, pergolas and gazebos

  • Site preparation. Choose a flat, open area, clear of trees, wires, fences and buildings. Level the ground as the manual describes.
  • Anchoring. Anchor the structure as the manufacturer instructs. Follow the manual for anchor type and depth, and check local rules before you dig. Call your local utility locator service before digging.
  • Surfacing. For playsets, use appropriate ground cover under and around the play area, as the manual recommends.
  • Time. These items can take a full day or more with two or more adults.
Engines

Generators and mowers

Generators and mowers may ship without oil, fuel or a charged battery. Before the first start, follow the manual for the correct oil type and amount, fuel type, battery connection and any other first-use steps. Do not start the engine until you have completed them.

Run generators outdoors and well away from windows, doors and vents. Never run a generator indoors or in a garage.
